The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ekiti Sector Command, has organised a free medical outreach for drivers, passengers and members of the host community as part of activities marking the 2026 Global Customer Service Week.
The exercise, held at the Central Motor Park in Ado-Ekiti, was organised in partnership with Afe Babalola Multi-System Hospital, the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Ekiti State chapters.
The outreach, themed “The Extra Mile,” formed part of the FRSC’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives aimed at strengthening its relationship with transport unions while promoting the health and safety of road users.
Medical services provided during the exercise included blood sugar testing, eye screening, blood pressure checks, free medical consultations and health advisory services. Beneficiaries also received free medicated glasses provided by the team from Afe Babalola Multi-System Hospital.
Speaking during the programme, the Ekiti Sector Commander, Corps Commander Sanya Adeoye, FCIPurS, MCILT, said the initiative was designed as part of proactive measures by the command to prevent road traffic crashes, particularly during the Ember Months.
Adeoye noted that some road crashes could be linked to underlying health conditions among motorists, stressing the importance of determining the health status and fitness of drivers before they embark on journeys.
He urged motorists, drivers and commuters to take personal responsibility for their safety while using the highways, stressing that road safety requires the collective commitment of all road users.
The Sector Commander, who emphasised the value of life, said, “Only the living celebrates,” while urging drivers to prioritise their health and safety as they go about their daily activities.
Adeoye also disclosed that the command would intensify its road safety campaigns across the three senatorial districts of Ekiti State as part of efforts to achieve a crash-free Ember Months.
He said the campaign would include motorised rallies, road shows, advocacy visits as well as interactive programmes on radio and television, through which motorists, passengers and other members of the public would be sensitised on safe road use during the Ember Months and beyond.
He further stressed the need for motorists to remain vigilant, obey traffic regulations and ensure they were physically fit before driving, noting that preventing crashes requires both institutional interventions and responsible behaviour by individual road users.
Drivers and other beneficiaries of the medical outreach expressed appreciation to the FRSC and its partners for providing the services free of charge, describing the initiative as timely and beneficial to the transport community.
The command said the outreach was part of its broader commitment to putting road users at the centre of its service delivery while promoting safer highways in Ekiti State.
